The secret sauce Fluid Studio brings to every project (and the difference it makes to the end result)

We've spent years perfecting our studio's secret sauce which, when applied liberally to every project we undertake, transforms the process from meh to, well, you'll just have to try for yourself... But unlike the Ronald's secret sauce, we're quite open about what makes Fluid Studio unique. Here the recipe for our (not so) secret sauce we bring to each and every project...

Practical brain with a creative soul

Michael, the founder and principal architect of Fluid Studio started his career as a plumber, working on large projects in Europe and Australia and getting a first-hand insight into the industry and the practicalities of construction. But there was always a creative soul there. Michael would spend his lunch break creating sculptures from off-cuts and leftovers onsite. The urge to create inspired him to study arts specialising in blacksmithing. But even in the art world, there was something missing: the ability to materially impact people's lives. Michael then went on to design high-end bathrooms and then kitchens for people and this opportunity to work with clients to help them design the perfect space for them was inspiring. Ultimately Michael knew he had to go and study architecture so he could help people design their ideal home. So, to say Michael's experience is broad is an understatement and this breadth of understanding is translated into everything we do here at Fluid Studio. Every design we develop doesn't just look great, it's derived from an earnest desire to create something both aesthetically pleasing and eminently practical. We don't design things that can't be built. It's this balance of left and right brain thinking that means we can develop creative solutions which are also cost-effective; ground-breaking yet achievable. There's no need to choose between form and function, great design is about both.

True collaborative process

We're not design dictators. Some designers will say, 'well, that's my solution, take it or leave it', but we're different. We work with you to develop the ideal solution. We love to help you unleash your creativity, providing you with the framework to explore your own ideas. Our expertise should be thought of more as an aide to your dreams and ambitions. We want to give you confidence to explore your creative side during your home design process. We're open to hearing your thoughts and feedback and we love to work together to iterate on our designs until they're just right. So, when you're working with us, you'll see that we're not arrogant in the solutions we come up with, we'll seek input and listen to your ideas, your concerns and your inspirations to create a home that's a true reflection of you and everything you love. This collaborative approach is the only way to create a home that is perfect for you.

Start with a strong concept

Perhaps it's the arts background, but we approach every project with a strong concept. This is an important place to begin because if we can all agree on an appropriate concept for the design, it makes all future decision making easier. You can always go back to the concept and ask, is this option the best way to express the concept? If it is, it's the right choice! If you're an avid traveller and you've collected objects from all corners of the world, the concept for your home might be to create a museum-home, somewhere you can proudly display all of your most prize possessions. Great, we've got a strong concept that is tied to you and your personality. Now, when we're trying to decide whether to have an open-tread stair or a more traditional stair, we go back to the concept and it becomes clear that we should create a stair that can also display objects and combination between stair and shelf. The decision has been informed by the concept and the result is a much more unique home that feels like a true expression of you and your interests. Of course that's just one example of how a strong concept can create a richer home design and the concept for your home may be very different, but we hope you can see how important this process is and why we bring this to each and every project we design.

Starting with a strong concept is crucial to creating a cohesive and breath-taking home that’s the perfect fit for you.

So, these three not-secret-anymore ingredients are what makes up Fluid Studio's secret sauce. They're qualities we promise to bring to every project and they'll ensure that your final renovation is a true expression of you and your passions to create a home that's truly a joy for you to live in. The difference these ingredients make to the end result is to create not just a house, any old idiot can do do that, we'll help you create a home.
